At CFH, everything we do is part of a joined-up operation - one that connects people, processes and places. From Livingston in Scotland to South West England and Slough, our three main sites work together to deliver for our clients every day.
Each of our locations brings something a little different to the table - from the fantastic people and print technology to the energy on the factory floor and the way our staff support their local community. In this series, we’re heading behind the scenes to explore the places that make CFH…CFH. And where better to start than with our Scottish site in the city of Livingston?
Tucked between Edinburgh and Glasgow in West Lothian, our Livingston site has been key in our operations since June 2003. Built in 2000 and developed into a secure print facility, the site has grown into a vital hub for high-volume, compliant communications. Based at Starlaw Business Park, it spans 35,000 square feet and includes 1,200 pallet spaces, giving us the infrastructure to deliver for clients across Scotland and beyond.
In 2011, we welcomed FST Technologies into the CFH group - bringing extra manufacturing, service and development expertise into our Scottish operations. Firmly positioning Livingston as the base for our work across Scotland, in 2015 we expanded even further with the acquisition of BSS Scotmail. This move also helped us secure the Scottish Government framework in partnership with Royal Mail.
Operations in Livingston constitute a large part of our digital output and play a vital role in our capacity to deliver multichannel communications on demand. Staff on site work closely with our fantastic East Kilbride office-based team, who provide additional support across a range of functions.
Each year, the team can deliver around 25 million completed packs and over 72 million printed images. It’s a high-output site backed by exceptional kit, including:
Finishing power includes booklet makers (Duplo and Bourg), guillotines, folders and wiro binding kit. We also maintain four high-speed inserters, including Pitney Bowes Rival and Mailstream models, which help keep operations moving efficiently.
Across our Livingston site and East Kilbride office, 61 people make up a close-knit and experienced team. Many colleagues have been with us for years, and it shows in the way they work - supporting each other, sharing knowledge, and taking real pride in what they do. Regular training, opportunities to learn new skills, and a strong team-first mindset all contribute to a positive, collaborative culture that reflects the CFH way of working.
The extended Livingston team is led by Site Director Bryan Knowles, Production Director Keith Smith, Project Client Services Manager Sue Tainsh, Quality & Environmental Manager Donna Russell and Document Developer Team Coordinator Julie Gilles - a leadership group that brings experience and approachability to day-to-day life in Livingston. Senior Relationship Manager Brian Graham is also an integral part of the Scottish team, as Sales Lead for our Royal Mail Scotland partnership.
We deliver a wide mix of essential communication services for clients in finance, local and central government, healthcare and elections. Some of the key services include:
Livingston is also where we deliver a portion of our electoral print output, from poll cards to postal votes and ballot papers.
The sense of community at Livingston starts with the team itself, with social events, staff incentives, and get-togethers a prominent part of the culture. Events include everything from ‘Fat Thursday’, where the team filled the canteen with donuts of every flavour – to light-hearted team gatherings outside of the workplace, to celebrate staff achievements.
That spirit also reaches beyond the factory floor. Earlier this year, we were proud to sponsor the Currie Chieftains Under-15s rugby team on their tour to Yorkshire. Our support helped make the trip accessible to all players - as they took part in the Harrogate Rugby Festival and a weekend packed with team-building challenges.
From high-volume output and specialist services to a close-knit team and community spirit, Livingston brings together the best of CFH.
